Brexit and Devolution have exposed our constitution and democratic institutions to unprecedented stresses. They have shown themselves to be resilient, but there is room for improvement.
The First Past the Post system is not a fair system, when it is obvious that the traditional two-party politics has broken down. We must move to a form of proportional representation and I will work with like-minded colleagues to try to deliver this change.
If the UK is to be preserved, we need a clearer settlement between its constituent parts. This is a major task and needs to be carried out away from an atmosphere of crisis. I will work both in Parliament and through civil society organisations that are focussed on delivering this.
Now that 16-year-olds can vote in Scottish and Welsh elections, I believe this should be extended to the entire country for Westminster elections.
